GTA6 Pre-Orders Go Live at $80 With No Disc — and Crypto Scammers Are Already Circling

GTA6

The standard edition costs $80, the Ultimate Edition costs $100, and the game ships November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There will be no disc.

For a crypto audience, the more relevant development arrived alongside the announcement. A wave of fake “early access” websites is demanding payment in Bitcoin, and a cluster of GTA-themed memecoins jumped on the news.

GTA 6 price, release date, and editions

Rockstar opened pre-orders on June 25 after confirming pricing the day before. The standard edition is $80 USD; the Ultimate Edition, which bundles in-game rewards, is $100. Buyers who pre-order can pre-load the game on November 12, ahead of the November 19 launch. GTA 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with no PC release date announced, in line with Rockstar’s usual console-first approach. The game has slipped twice, first from a 2025 window to a May 2026 target, then to November.

The stakes are large. Take-Two has tied a full fiscal year of guidance to the release, and analysts expect GTA 6 to become one of the fastest-selling entertainment products ever made.

No disc: GTA 6 is digital-only at launch

The headline surprise in the announcement was the missing disc. Rockstar confirmed that physical copies of GTA 6 will contain only a download code in the box. The “physical” edition redeems the same download that digital buyers receive, with no disc inside.

Rockstar has not given a reason, but the widely cited explanation is leak prevention. A disc shipped to retailers days early can be copied and streamed before launch, and a download-only release closes that window. The decision also removes the second-hand market. A code-in-box copy cannot be resold, lent, or installed offline, which means no used sales that cut Rockstar and Take-Two out of the margin.

Some retailers have pushed back. Canadian chain Video Games Plus and US-based Loot Box Gaming both said they will not stock GTA 6 at launch under store policies against selling boxes that contain only a download code. Take-Two has separately denied that it plans a disc-based version after launch.

Fake GTA 6 “early access” sites are after your crypto

The release-date confirmation has drawn scammers as well as buyers. Security firm Malwarebytes reported a surge of fraudulent sites offering “VIP early access” to GTA 6, dressed in neon Vice City artwork and AI-generated images to mimic a legitimate storefront. One site examined by researchers charged $250 and accepted only Bitcoin, USDT, or Ether. After paying, victims were told to enter a transaction ID to “unlock” a download that never arrives.

The crypto requirement is the warning sign. “You pay, you get nothing,” said Stefan Dasic, a senior malware research engineer at Malwarebytes, who told PC Gamer there is usually no way to recover the money. A card payment can be reversed through a chargeback, but a confirmed crypto transfer cannot, which is why scammers favor it. The tactic fits the wider fraud picture BNC has tracked this year, where AI-generated sites and wallet-draining flows have become routine tools.

The defense is simple. There is no GTA 6 early access at any price. Rockstar is selling pre-orders only, through official storefronts and authorized retailers, and any site asking for crypto in exchange for a head start is a scam.

GTA 6 memecoins spike on the pre-order news

Crypto traders produced their own reaction. Dozens of GTA- and Vice City-themed tokens posted gains across Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain in the hours after the pre-order date landed. None are affiliated with Rockstar or Take-Two, which has restricted blockchain and NFT projects built on its intellectual property and has never issued an official token.

These tokens trade on hype around a date their buyers do not control, and the gains tend to concentrate in a handful of early wallets while later buyers take the losses, the same pattern BNC documented during the TRUMP and MELANIA launches. The move also came against a soft market: Bitcoin was changing hands near $62,700 on June 24, close to a two-week low.

The takeaway for buyers is the same on both fronts. The only GTA 6 purchase worth making is the official pre-order, at $80 through Rockstar and platform storefronts. Any token using the GTA name, and any site promising the game early for crypto, sits outside that.
