Platinum Price Prediction: XPT Holds Firm Above $1,600 Following Volatile Day

The metal recorded gains of about 0.5 percent during displayed market feeds while sustaining prices above former session lows in the vicinity of $1,602. The intraday range ranged widely from $580 to $1,640.

Notably, the trading session opened indecisively, with platinum fluctuating between $1,590 and $1,610. Buyers returned as the session waned and provided strength until the high was seen near $1,640; selling pressure immediately followed. The price retreated slightly but stabilized in the $1,610s level to trade in the neighborhood of $1,613.

Intraday Rally Suffers Failure Near $1,640; Support Holds

Strong demand emerged when platinum reclaimed $1,600. The rally was bolstered when support broke the $1,610 level and escalated rapidly toward $1,640. The price advanced steadily before losing steam around $1,640.

Intraday Rally Suffers Failure Near $1,640; Support Holds

However, platinum hit a wall and started to backpedal under $1,630. Sellers pressured the price further below the $1,620 territory, but it was able to cling to most gains and remains in the black over the former close.

The daily chart places strong resistance between the $1,620–$1,625 levels, but a more considerable resistance awaits in the vicinity of the $1,638–$1,640 region, as evidenced by the high posted, which precipitated the price decline to $1,613. It might take further strength in the form of buyer volume to surmount $1,620.

Daily Momentum Turning to the Upside; Slow Grind?

Additionally, the daily chart shows platinum steadily building support in the trading range where it has languished. The precious metal can be seenTrading the price in the neighborhood of $1,606 and up 0.6% on the period. The precious metal traded sideways throughout most of July from prior highs exceeding $2,000.

MACD posted a solid 7.726 on the oscillator, while the MACD line remains at minus 24.228—above a signal level at minus 31.954—indicating continued turning up in short-term momentum. The pair remains below the neutral line of 0, though it is expected to continue improving in upcoming sessions.

Daily Momentum Turning to the Upside; Slow Grind?

The Relative Strength Indicator (RSI) came in at a disappointing 46.31, with its corresponding average coming in at a similar reading of 44.71—signaling downsloping momentum as it remains below 50. Nonetheless, this reading remains notably higher than last month’s doldrums, suggesting a more gradual recovery.

Volume reached 224,160 in the period; however, trading was much greater throughout earlier sessions in 2025. Volume continues at an increased pace relative to prior months, but for price action it needs to sustain moves above the 1,620 level going forward.

Support Levels Hold As Price Chooses Recovery over Breakdown

Meanwhile, the $1,600 zone acts as immediate support now, after having resisted during the retreat of price in the later hours of trade, and the former closing price around $1,602 reinforces that barrier. Below, $1,590 stands to be monitored as potential retracement price-action levels having attracted bids during Wednesday, and a breakdown from $1,580 may open up new selling pressure toward the bottom of recent trade.

Support Levels Hold As Price Chooses Recovery over Breakdown

According to the TradingView chart, resistance rests at the $1,620 level for the day and then $1,630 – $1,640 higher, the levels at which selling pressure was strong. It’s not out of the question for platinum to trade within $1,600-$1,620 while consolidating on the day before heading for another assault on previous higher highs, although such a move could stall just below $1,640 or again fail.

Though the daily shows a turn to the upside, all larger-perspective returns remain on negative ground. In a broader context, returns have not gone above 16%. Looking to a closer range, price actions show 1.26% gains and a near 5% daily advance the other day.
